When Sally met Manita

Sally has always wondered about her ancestors. She had no idea where her immigrant ancestors came from as both sides of her family had been in the US for many generations. Occasionally, Sally would find herself day dreaming about going back in time to witness who first stepped foot onto American soil.

She also longed to know if she had family out there and was curious if those DNA tests could reunite them.

Sally had no clue how she’d get this information!

Google!

Off to google she would go searching for answers only to end up going down one rabbit hole after the other. Sally would get increasingly frustrated with each attempt. Sure, there were tons of inspirational stories which would warm her heart, but they would only serve to tease and taunt her. All Sally wanted was an easy to follow step-by-step process that wouldn’t bore her to tears.

The obvious source for information would be Sally’s parents, but she couldn’t ask them because …

It’s too late

… they died years ago. The regret of not asking them about their family and recording those precious family stories has left her haunted. She tries not to think about it, yet often asks herself why she didn’t take the opportunity while she had it. She thought she had all the time in the world.

She recalls several times when her parents would share family stories, but she didn’t really listen. In fact, her eyes would glaze over and she would zone out. Sally is so mad at herself! Thinking about it leaves her stomach in knots.

Wait a second! Sally had 2 uncles and 1 aunt who were still alive. A glimmer of hope!

Sally had no appetite on the day she decided to reach out to them, because she was too excited.

A glimmer of hope? Yeah, right, more like the straw that broke the camels back. When she reached out to them they didn’t have any information to share and went on to say: “who cares, it doesn’t matter.” It was like being punched in the stomach. Her jaw dropped and she couldn’t say a word, as nothing would come out.

It hit her like a ton of bricks when she realized she’s the only member of her entire family seeking this information. Sally was on her own. Her heart fell to the pit of her stomach. Her own family couldn’t or wouldn’t help her. She had assumed they cared as much as her, but they didn’t.

It was time to give up. Those deflating conversations had to be a sign. It wasn’t meant to be. No way she could do this all on her own. Sally was done, done, done. It was time to stop trying and come to terms with the fact she would never get answers to her questions.

Suddenly, Sally was overcome by a tremendous sense of responsibility. She can’t shake the shake it off and only knows of one day to deal with the crushing weight on her shoulders.

Half a bottle of Wine

She heads immediately to the kitchen to find the half bottle of wine from the other night. She grabs a wine glass and begins to pour. Off to the couch she goes to find some mindless reality TV show to dull out her senses. She sets down her full glass of wine and the bottle of wine she plans on polishing off onto the coffee table. She gets comfy, grabs the remote, turns on the TV and tosses the remote back onto the coffee table.

“You have got to be kidding me right now” she yells at the TV.

The popular TV show Who do you Think You Are is about to start. Uh uh. She scrambles to the remote, to change the channel, but in her haste knocks over her full glass of wine. She hadn’t even taken a sip. “Oh, great, just great” she exclaims. Sally was about to crack. She immediately begins to clean up the mess which luckily missed her laptop and that’s when she hears a ladies voice.

She recognizes the voice! But, where was it coming from?

Ghost

Sally mumbles to herself “oh what, an ancestral ghost to show me the way?” She was losing it and beginning to feel a bit out of control. She literally looked behind her to see where the voice was coming from, then turns back around and begins to laugh hysterically.

Her favorite actress is being featured on that TV show tonight.

Sally isn’t sure if she feels tortured or excited.

She does have a quarter bottle of wine left and begins to chug from the bottle. Sally settles back onto a dry spot on the couch. Damn, she loves this show and out of nowhere she blurts out:

“it’s only possible for celebrities who have access to a team of experts, it’s not for a regular gal like me.”

Mic drop.

Sally is off the hook now.

Or, was she simply comforting herself into believing that statement? She had clearly tried and could point to all her attempts and reasons why she couldn’t do it.

So, why couldn’t she shake this deep longing to know? Will she go to her grave never knowing? Would her children and grandchildren have similar regrets and be haunted like her one day?

Hell no!

Hell no!

Sally is fast approaching her retirement, and there’s no way she’s waiting until then to fill the empty, gaping hole inside of her. She’s compelled to pass on this knowledge to her children, grandchildren and future generations.

A jolt of energy runs up Sally’s spine. She reaches over to grab her barely scathed from wine laptop. Back to her trusty friend google she goes and begins to look for an expert who would love to help a regular gal like her … she comes across Manita of the DNA Knowledge Lab. She gasps and feels an energy shift.

She takes a deep, full breath, releases it and like a woman obsessed immediately fills out the chemistry call application and books a chemistry call for the next day.

Manita explains her step-by-step, easy to follow, yet powerful process which would fast track Sally to finding her ancestors and lost family in 3 months! Sally felt a huge weight lifted off of her. Her shoulders dropped and she let out a big sigh of relief. Tears well up in her eyes and there’s a lump in her throat. She wasn’t alone anymore and finally felt understood and supported.

Not wanting to go yet another year of life without this information, Sally hired Manita to be her mentor. Within 3 months, Sally not only found out where her immigrant ancestors came from but also connected with lost family throughout the world she didn’t know existed. She still shakes her head in disbelief. It turned out to be easy and fun. She can’t stop smiling.

It gets better!

Fast forward a year. Sally continues to fill out her family tree and get further back on it. More and more cousins keep popping up and she’s now stumbled into helping others with her brand-new knowledge. She even got her uncle Harry, her dad’s younger brother, to agree to a DNA test. Uncle Harry is blown away and inspired by all the information Sally has shared with him and wants to help and be part of it. It has even triggered him into recalling some family stories which validated some findings. It feels like a miracle to uncle Harry.

This experience has been better than anything Sally could ever have imagined.

The empty, gaping hole Sally had is more than filled, it’s over flowing. She’s gushing with joy.

The most excited of all are her grandchildren and Sally is about to give them the ultimate gift: she’s planning on taking all 5 of them to her ancestral homeland this Summer. In fact, they’re staying with a cousin she found with a DNA test. She’s about to create precious memories for her grandchildren, who will one day look back and know not only where their grandma came from, but where part of them came from.

Sally is on a natural high. Her heart’s exploding with so much love and her entire being is bursting with gratitude.

Sally is complete now.

I removed this right after mic drop:

That’s it! It’s clearly way too hard and time consuming for someone like Sally to do this on her own. Sally has convinced herself that it’s not possible unless you have a team of experts that can do it for you, just like the celebrities on that TV show do.

I removed this around Uncle Bob:

that this is all happening. He hadn’t believed it was possible.

remove from the just give up section …. The struggle’s too great. There’s no point and it was time to let it go.

I removed from the intro section:

What was that journey like and why did they leave wherever it is that they came from?
