Hey, I’m Manita, a DNA connector (aka genetic genealogist) and documentary filmmaker.
As the founder of the DNA Knowledge Lab, empowering you with a rock solid foundation of basic ancestral DNA testing knowledge and all things that help us connect using DNA is my jam.
I have a degree in Mathematics and make my full time living as a CPA. I took a leap of faith in 2016 when I decided to go on sabbatical to pursue my life long dream of making a documentary on my Azorean ancestors.
I’m also a pilgrim and world traveler. These 2 things about me may appear to be random and irrelevant, but they aren’t. One day, I plan on leading pilgrimages and hosting genetic/genealogy retreats in my ancestral homeland of the Azores.

Why am I here?
I’ve always been curious about how my ancestors ended up in the middle of the North Atlantic ocean and knew one day I’d do a documentary on them. The main goal of my documentary has always been to inspire people to go on their own DNA journey. BUT, I noticed something during the process of researching and interviewing experts throughout the world for my documentary I could no longer ignore.
For my documentary to have the impact I want it to have, I had to extend the experience BEYOND watching the documentary and being inspired by it. I needed to also create a HOW TO go on a similar DNA journey.
My own personal journey for greater connection has led me here to serve you and help you connect as you now embark on your own DNA journey.
Travel, pilgrimages, DNA and the process of making a documentary on my ancestors has not only given me greater meaning in my life, but helped me to connect more deeply within myself, to others and to a greater unseen force. It has transformed my life and made me realize we are all inter-connected.
When I say all things that help to connect us is my jam, I mean it.
